Dear Mrs. Hock, your pencils suck.

Found a letter that I had written way back when for school. I’m not sure if it’s complete or not because I believe the copy I have is a rough draft. I am guessing it was supposed to be a persuasive essay… I bet the teacher loved reading this (most students know not to bad mouth the school in their writings.. not me.) By the way, Mrs. Hock was a School Store employee.

Dear Mrs. Hock,

I always buy your ten cent pencils, and my classmates and I have noticed that the lead breaks when you sharpen them. I have an excellent answer for this problem. I hope you consider it.

This is my main idea. You should get rid of the ten cent pencils, and get get a better quality pencil and make it under 25 cents. Children are wasting their money on the ten cent pencils.

I have given my idea a lot of thought. I hope you consider it. Thank you for your time.

…. So basically I am telling her to get rid of the cheap pencils and get some better ones, but still keep them reasonably priced. I was a funny kid.

Handwriting Analysis Personality Report.

The other day I stumbled upon a link to a handwriting analysis personality report. Now, prior to doing this I really didn’t believe that much could be told from someone’s handwriting, but my god, these results were dead on. I was shocked and amazed. For a split second I thought: “Is someone stalking me?” :P

Nicole has difficulty making decisions. Her mind changes constantly. She lives in an emotional tug of war. Nicole could be described like a thermometer. Today warm and friendly, yet tomorrow she may be distant and cold, not wanting to be close to anyone. Some research indicates that people with a severe variety in the slant of their handwriting have an inability to tolerate sugar and are suffering the side-effects of too much sugar in their diet. If moods swings are a reoccurring issue, investigate the diet.
If Nicole encounters a situation she cannot handle she frequently pulls into herself. She feels her emotions are secure if she is withdrawn. When she has solved the problem she can be very outgoing and again need other people’s companionship. Some see Nicole as very moody, but it it would be more accurate to say she has two complete personalities that she chooses depending on the circumstance. This type of person is often hard to understand because no one knows what personality she is exhibiting today. She may not be bothered by something one minute, then the next minute become upset at the same thing. It is very difficult to pin down Nicole’s emotional expressiveness.

People that write their letters in an average height and average size are moderate in their ability to interact socially. According to the data input, Nicole doesn’t write too large or too small, indicating a balanced ability to be social and interact with others.
Nicole will be candid and direct when expressing her opinion. She will tell them what she thinks if they ask for it, whether they like it or not. So, if they don’t really want her opinion, don’t ask for it!
In reference to Nicole’s mental abilities, she has a very investigating and creating mind. She investigates projects rapidly because she is curious about many things. She gets involved in many projects that seem good at the beginning, but she soon must slow down and look at all the angles. She probably gets too many things going at once. When Nicole slows down, then she becomes more creative than before. Since it takes time to be creative, she must slow down to do it. She then decides what projects she has time to finish. Thus she finishes at a slower pace than when she started the project.

She has the best of two kinds of minds. One is the quick investigating mind. The other is the creative mind. Her mind thinks quick and rapidly in the investigative mode. She can learn quicker, investigate more, and think faster. Nicole can then switch into her low gear. When she is in the slower mode, she can be creative, remember longer and stack facts in a logical manner. She is more logical this way and can climb mental mountains with a much better grip.
Nicole’s true self-image is unreasonably low. Someone once told Nicole that she wasn’t a great and beautiful person, and she believed them. Nicole also has a fear that she might fail if she takes large risks. Therefore she resists setting her goals too high, risking failure. She doesn’t have the internal confidence that frees her to take risks and chance failure. Nicole is capable of accomplishing much more than she is presently achieving. All this relates to her self-esteem. Nicole’s self-concept is artificially low. Nicole will stay in a bad situation much too long… why? Because she is afraid that if she makes a change, it might get worse. It is hard for Nicole to plan too far into the future. She kind of takes things on a day to day basis. She may tell you her dreams but she is living in today, with a fear of making a change. No matter how loud she speaks, look at her actions. This is perhaps the biggest single barrier to happiness people not believing in and loving themselves. Nicole is an example of someone living with a low self-image, because their innate self-confidence was broken.
Nicole is selective when picking friends. She does not trust everyone. She has a select group of people that are truly close to her, usually two or three. She is careful when choosing her inner circle of friends.
Nicole has a healthy imagination and displays a fair amount of trust. She lets new people into her circle of friends. She uses her imagination to understand new ideas, things, and people. (Kind of contradicts the previous one, but this is how I’ve been recently in school and such.. ie. joining the honor society and befriending the people I mentioned in the previous entry… But I am still extremely selective of the people I truly let in. ..Haha, I guess these last two show my two different personalities, eh, Kya?)

Call me officer. Haha.. not really. :)

You know how I joined that honor society (and if you didn’t, you do now)? Well, I also started attending the meetings, the first one actually not being a meeting but an Earth Day event held at the school; an event where I happened to have my picture taken and someone decided to put it in the local paper. Oh god.

Before I get into what else I want to say, I feel I need to explain that this honor society is more than just a scholarly thing; it’s an international honor society that has been around since the early 1900′s with chapters in eight countries (so far), and besides “recognizing academic achievement” the society’s mission statement is also “to provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.”

Of course, while the society provides the means of achieveing its mission statements, the individual chapter leaders and officers (at the different schools) are instrumental in their own success. They need to be the ones that go out there and make things happen. There are many chapters that exist purely for the benefits that the society offers, but they do not get involved; which sadly means they do not get the complete rewarding experience of being a part of such an organization. In being a member you can help people, you can help the world, and you can truly make a difference.

Now, the members of the society who are actually involved with the fund raisers and such are those who attend the meetings. And while my school’s chapter is one of the better ones, we only have a little more than a handful of members attend the meetings. I think it’s sad, but I think that with effort, we can get the attendee count up, which will only mean we will be able to do more.

Now that I’ve explained that, I will get back to what I was going to say. The second meeting I attended there was a nomination “ceremony” for officer positions — you could volunteer as a nominee, you could nominate someone else — Officer positions include: President, Vice President, Recording Secretary and Treasurer.

Now, I haven’t been a member for long, but no one was really volunteering and I knew I wanted to be more involved, so I volunteered myself as a nominee for recording secretary ( there was no way I was going to run for president or vice president.. that would see a LITTLE presumptuous of me.. haha.) So, the last meeting I attended (and the last of the semester) we had voting and I am now the recording secretary. Of course, I wasn’t running against anyone but I did give a little speech to help assure them that I will be taking all my responsibilities seriously and I also went into how great the organization is.

Here are my responsibilities according the honor society’s manual:

  1. Take and present minutes at each chapter meeting
  2. Maintain the chapter calendar of events
  3. Maintain a record of chapter events, including photos, flyers and newspaper articles, for the Chapter Record Book
  4. Compile and update contact information for members

Now, what I do may differ somewhat from that list… I may have more responsibilities. Our chapter adviser told me that this summer all the officers will get together and we’ll discuss who’s going to have what responsibilities. It’s a group effort, really. No position in the club is a small one.

We may be discussing this at an event in which the new officers (except one, she’s busy) plan to attend next month. It’s an Officer’s Academy, the purpose of it being to develop leadership skills among incoming chapter officers. I believe it’s June 12th-13th and I know it’s out-of-state, so we’d be staying overnight. It seems like it will be a great event.

Speaking of the new officers, two of them are people that I happened to befriend right away, so that’s pretty cool. We all had lunch together yesterday, and it was nice. :) It feels good to be involved in something.
