A few reasons why I love my dad.

Maybe this sounds like a dorky entry, but my dad is one my best friends and if I didn’t have him in my life, I honestly don’t know how I could have made it.

My dad’s a cool guy, and not trying to sound vain, but we’re a lot alike. Unfortunately this means that we do clash, and usually when we do, it can get pretty heated… but nevertheless, he’s a good man and I couldn’t ask for a better dad.

A few funny tidbits that only make me love the guy more:

  1. The guy can’t sing, and when he’s singing, he NEVER rhymes, but it’s funny anyway. And he always sings about the most random things. “Paper in the wind” sticks out the most in my mind.
  2. Sometimes when he’s being witty and/or repeating random things that he thought was funny and expecting the listener to think is funny, or to understand it, he will skip important details, which can make him sound a little retarded… Now, I’m like him in this way because most of my humor requires the recipient (of the joke/comment) to use their mind and make connections, BUT my dad tends to say things that only he’ll get because no one saw that episode or heard that saying (etc.) he was making the connection with (or the subject being connected to his joke is so old that I need to be reminded of how it makes sense.) Yesterday he kept saying “Ladies and gentleman, Mr. Johnny Cash” And I finally ask him why he keeps saying that, and he says “I’m watching X-Files” … And I’m like, “WTF are you talking about?” And then he explained the connection and it was funny, but my god, if I didn’t know him, I would seriously question his sanity sometimes.
  3. He’s what I call a “Sophisticated Hick” He doesn’t really fit the “hick” stereotype… that’s because he’s a sophisticated one! It’s hard to explain, but if you knew him like I do, you’d understand.
  4. He gives people nicknames. I don’t know why, but he does. And they’re usually the weirdest names. “Ruth” and “Matilda” were two of my tutors.
  5. I learned recently that my dad apparently didn’t know what you call those “Elastic Doohickeys that go around the hair” … hair bands, pony tails, etc., if you don’t know.

And now for a more serious list (well, some of it):

  1. He’s always been his own person. He doesn’t try to be anyone else.
  2. He’s probably the smartest person I know. Not only was he an ace in school (was 7th in his class) but he also has life smarts — the intelligence that I feel really counts.
  3. He also knows everything. Yes, it’s true!
  4. He’s someone who I can just hang out with. Like I said, we’re a lot alike. Same kind of humor, same musical tastes, same television tastes, same food tastes. Yeah, he’s one cool cat.
  5. Oh, and he can cook too. Gotta respect a dad that can cook!
  6. He was able to quit drinking. If he didn’t do that, life would have really sucked, let me tell you.
  7. He’s the hardest working person I know and on top of that, he is also the least selfish person. He’s a true family man that has always worked his ass off to keep us on our feet. I respect him more than I can put into words.

Yep, thats’ my dad.

A bit of an update.

This semester’s almost over, but school won’t be for me. I am pretty sure that I will be taking summer courses this year. I probably will have to do them online, though, because the courses offered that I need to take are only available online. They’re both computer-related courses, so it really makes no difference whether I go online or go to school for them.

I mentioned a long time ago (on howlatthemoon.org) that last semester I was invited to join an Honor Society but I declined because I wasn’t sure how my Maths course was going to go (insanely sucky teacher… don’t want to get into it again) Well, that course didn’t screw me as much as I was anticipating and my GPA is still a 3.577, so after being invited to join the society again this semester, I accepted the invitation. Our school’s chapter (of the society) put together a really nice induction ceremony. I didn’t think much of my membership before it, but after I went and got inducted (and after my boyfriend and family showed me how proud they were of me) I felt pretty proud of myself. It was a very nice time.

And now for a completely different subject: In March, for my dad’s birthday, my family went to see a hockey game (hockey is his sport.) It was such a good game. They ended up having to go into a shoot out and ultimately the team we were rooting for won — we really got our money’s worth! My dad was really happy; it was great to see him have such a good time.

Here’s a couple of pictures from the game:

Who’s gonna get the puck?
Looks like they’re all having a meeting. :s
The ref better move…
Lots of sticks (don’t mean that in a perverted way.. ;o)
A shot from afar.
The sticks have been dropped, the fight is on!
A closeup of the fight. The guy from the team my family supported (the one on the right) seriously knocked the other guy out.

There were SO many fights that game. I know fighting is normal in hockey, but my family and I were thinking that these teams did not like each other.

And a little earlier this month my dad went in for hip replacement surgery. Now, my dad’s hips are about as bad as a person’s hips can get (especially the left one, the one he had replaced) He was born without them fully formed, they were missing cartilage and all. After years of use my dad literally wore them down to the point that the doctor who did the surgery was perplexed at how my dad was even able to walk. I am guessing it was one of the worst cases the doctor had ever seen. I can’t even imagine the pain he must have been in. He rarely even took medicine, too; the most he’d take was an aspirin every once in a blue moon. A new hip is going to change his life. Now, we wait to see if he’ll agree to get the second one done. I am hoping that after he sees the difference this new hip will make, he’ll go and have the other one replaced, too. The right one is not as bad as the left but it’s still really freaking bad.

Yesterday I went to a picnic at my sister’s school. And I am so damn sore. They had setup a kickball game, you see, and while I do exercise (I lift weights, do push ups, etc), I haven’t played a full-on contact sport in a while and thus, I haven’t exercised certain muscles in certain ways for a while — Maybe I wouldn’t be hurting so much if I was sane when I participated. See, when I play sports, something changes inside me; I’m like the Hulk. MUST RUN AROUND LIKE A NUT BECAUSE I MUST BE EVERYWHERE THE BALL IS, I MUST NOT LET ANYONE SCORE, I MUST SCORE, AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, I MUST WIN. I do not smile when I play, I actually look like I’m angry; that’s my concentration face and I get like that every time I compete. I am partially crazy when it comes to sports and other competitions. But anyway, it was a lot of fun and it really makes me want to be on a sports team again.

And right now I am watching Saving Silverman for about the 100th time. Woo.

Hello, neighbor.

Thanks to those who voted in the contest that I posted about in my last entry. Unfortuantley the site screwed up what could have been a good thing. It seems that the contest wasn’t very well-planned out or managed well. There were quite a few issues. The biggest one being that during the first day of voting, no one could vote for a while; things went smoothly at first and then BAM, couldn’t vote. I guess there was too much of a load on the server, or something. Then, when voting came back up, they took all the contest links off the site with no explanation. They haven’t mentioned anything about the contest since then. I don’t even know if they’ve decided the winners yet, or if they’re even going to do that. It’s kind of BS, but whatever; it’s not like Moose would have won, even though he is one cool little puppy.

Anyway, I’ve been wanting to blog for a while, but right now I am too tired to write about anything else. However, I will be showing my face, or better yet, typed ramblings, soon. Right now I’m going to watch me some Two and a Half Men and then some Smackdown, and maybe I’ll even get something to eat AND drink. Wowwww.
